Magnets can help you on cruise ships in so many different ways that I brought three different types and used them all daily! You can reconfigure any time, so these are a really flexible solution. A mask can be handy if you come down with a respiratory virus onboard and want to ensure you don’t spread it to fellow passengers. Many cruise lines allow passengers to bring 1-2 bottles of wine per guest onto the cruise ship (a corkage charge may apply). If you do and you plan to drink it in your cabin, do not forget the wine opener.

A good tip is to take Bonine or another non-drowsy seasickness medication, use seabands or even a motion sickness patch behind your ear. If you’re sensitive to motion and may get seasick, make sure to pack seabands and even some Bonine motion sickness medication just in case. Once you book your cruise and choose a cabin, if there’s availability, the cruise line will send you an email offering you a chance to bid for an upgrade. While there’s a minimum bid set, you can choose with category to bid on, including suites. Most of the time, you’ll get at least 1 category upgrade, and if you’re lucky, you may get a much better cabin than you paid for.

It may be worth it to get that photo package offered by the cruise ship. They’ll give you great quality photos for a lifetime of memories, plus there are so many fun photo ops during the cruise that you may not take otherwise. This way, if you need to get up to go to the washroom during the night you won’t disturb your partner, nor will you stub your toe.

When we’re cruising through areas within a few miles of the coastline, it’s possible to connect phones to have Internet access through mobile data while on the cruise. Typically, you should always ensure your phone is set to Airplane Mode when on a cruise to avoid expensive rates that phone plans can incur if it connects to the shipboard data networks. For example, during a transatlantic cruise on the Norwegian Bliss, I once logged on in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to find that pages didn’t load after waiting several minutes.

You will be provided with unlimited towels on your Royal Caribbean cruise. Your bath towels will be replenished daily by your stateroom attendant. At the end of the day, you can hang all your lanyards on your magnetic hooks (each person gets a hook for lanyard, towel, and swimsuit). In the modern era, everyone has at least one or two devices that need to be charged daily. For us as a family of four, that can be a real challenge in spaces with limited outlets! It’s a great cruise cabin tip for anyone without a drink package that doesn’t include bottled water. You can save money by filling up at the buffet and having access to drinkable water in your cabin overnight. But that doesn’t stop passengers from bringing a shower curtain or thick blackout curtain to hang in the cabin for added privacy during their cruise vacation.
The cruise’s lido deck can get crowded during the mid-afternoon hours. The morning is always our favorite time to head to the pool. As other cruisers nurse their hangovers or head to a late breakfast, the pool decks can be unusually empty in the morning hours, making for a much more enjoyable experience. The cruise’s disco may be rocking at night and into the wee morning hours. In doing so, you can determine whether the port or starboard side of the ship will be facing land more frequently, providing you with more scenic views. There are some very informative port maps and mini-guides available for every port of call, but for some strange reason, these maps are typically not distributed to all passengers.
